About Andorran Literature

The history of Andorran literature begins in the Medieval period, with a Latin influence like many of the other countries in the region, relying heavily on religious and governmental texts.

Of course Andorra has a strong Catalan influence being situated between Spain and France. Today Catalan is the official language of Andorra.

Andorran literature doesn’t begin to emerge as a regular practice until the Catalan Renaissance of the 19th century, with notable works like L’Atlantida, published in 1877 by Jacint Verdaguer.

In the 20th Century emerged a more distinct Andorran voice and a broader range of themes and topics.
